What is the purpose of religion?
Think hard about this one...
I do NOT want whatever happens to come off the top of your head.
I want your opinion, just your pure, potent opinion.

I think that.....
All religions came from a truth....
We blinded ourselves and others out of a thirst for power....
No one knows what is anymore....
We are all constructed of energy, the only substance we know of...
We are of conscious...something... and that is our true self, our minds..
Just an idea, but being made of energy and thought, is it not possible that, after death, we continue to another source of life? are recreated? of ourselves perhaps? i don't know....
ancient people needed things to explain volcanos and earthquakes and what defined their every move, so they invented gods. and to go with their gods, they started religions.
organized religion works so well because it preys on people's fear of death and the unknown. religion is the opiate of the people. someone important said that- i think karl marx. yeah, him.
people are afraid of death, and religion comforts them. it gives them a purpose for living and lays out the rules they have to live by. People like to be told what is "good" and what is "bad" moral behavior. They don't have to figure it out for themselves then. They can think ok:
here is what I have to do to get into heaven. They live by these pre-aproved rules. they die. do they get into heaven?
That's what i thought. until i found out you didn't have to do anythign to get in. just believe. does THAT sound good? seems to to everyone else.
hmmm....so what's hell like?
